Lumino City is Now Available on Steam Sequel to the award-winning game Lume, Lumino City begins where that game left off. If you haven’t had a chance to play anything by State of Play, this is surely a game you want to pick up. Like Lume before it, State of Plays latest takes place. Throughout the game you are invited to explore the expansive paper city, use your ingenuity to solve a sorts of puzzle mechanisms, and help Lumi save her kidnapped Granddad. Windows and Mac Steam: £14.99 Lumino City has an architect - and its the architecture that makes the most lasting impression here. The attention to detail is so precise that you almost forget that everything on the screen is constructed entirely out of paper. The real-world 10-foot structure, created by their gifted artists, feels almost like you’re involved in an award-winning stop motion animated film. Once again, with this sequel, State of Play has created a challenging, yet satisfying interactive puzzle game that is beautifully built into an immersive work of paper art. Lumino City is the sequel to Lume– a game created entirely out of paper, card, miniature lights and motors. It will be available for PC, Mac and Linix. Something nice to round off a year that’s felt ever so mean.State of Play has just announced that their highly anticipated Lumino City will be available on Steam on December 3. Playful and warm, a pop-up book that expands into our world then runs free in our imaginations. It brings the feeling of exploring the best children’s books. Good hearted, well intentioned, and kind. There may be frustrations, but Lumino City is something good. There are also regular giveaways on Epic Games Store. (There’s a fair share of mischief as well). Stores like Humble Bundle or Indie Gala frequently give away free Steam keys for promotional purposes. Grab your nightstick, squeal like a siren, and Hit the Road with Sam & Max, Freelance Police, as they attempt to crack their toughest case. Puzzles often feel less like obstacles, but gestures towards other citizens, or simple moments of play. Lumi, our protagonist, is a kind soul, and her adventure is littered with charming vignettes and good deeds. It’s thoroughly imaginative, and swollen with a compassionate spirit. The journey through this tiny city is full of wonder. There’s a compassionate spirit to Lumino City. These moments are thankfully overshadowed by the experience of the whole. The methods to complete these puzzles feel fairly obvious once pointed out, but getting to that point proves to be a chore. While it does highlight points of interaction when needed, these moments proved to be the most frustrating, especially in contrast to the more languid pacing of the game. It’s at its worst when it needs you to do something with particular timing. It works, but at times it gets a bit fussy about where you need to be pointing to. Lumino City’s interface operates similarly to Machinarium, limiting you to interacting with only preset points and mechanisms. These same limits mean the boundaries of the spaces are more obvious. The lighting, framing and shots are each carefully set, and the limits of the method ensure that there are no wasteful scenes. There’s a library, with unique books for each letter of the alphabet, and posters that line stations walls. Total Game Time: 6.7 hours 4.4 hours (Steam) + 2.3 hours (Offline) Steam. There’s a level of fidelity unique to Lumino City. There’s handyman’s workbook filled with page upon page of illustrations and notes. With Lumino City, State of Play has found another intersection, one between the digital and the real. My favorite games lie in that illusion, in the intersection between the digital worlds in front of me and the physical contact of play. One of the most beautiful things about games is that they create spaces that can’t exist, then imbue them with a physicality through participatory friction.
